The U.S. Supreme Court officially reversed Roe v. Wade Friday morning, declaring that the constitutional right to abortion that has been upheld for nearly a half century, will no longer exist. The decision, which was leaked in early May, means that abortion rights will be rolled back in almost half of the states immediately, with more restrictions likely to follow. Abortion will not be available in large parts of the country. Overturning Roe v. Wade will allow states to change access to abortion, allowing state legislatures to pass laws banning abortions prior to fetal viability. Blue states are looking to expand access to abortion. Each state will vary in terms of when laws will change. Many red states have trigger laws designed to restrict abortion in the event that Roe was overturned. For example, Texas is currently defending an effective six-week ban, but will revert to a more restrictive law with Roe overturned. The state, which is where Roe originated, has a trigger law designed to automatically reinstate its previous ban. What do you think about this law being overturned?
