Well do ya know? We'll be bringing you some of the lesser known #BlackHistoryMonth facts everyday for the month of February. Starting with the fact that Black History Month originally started as “Negro History Week,” created by Carter G. Woodson (photo #2) in 1926. Woodson was a noted African American historian, scholar, educator and publisher. Negro History Week became a month-long celebration in 1976. The month of February was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass (photo #3) and Abraham Lincoln.
