I think it was a gesture of kindness but that doesn’t necessarily mean that a parent would take it that way. I have a friend who really appreciates the school helping her. When we spent some time before our move living in a hotel the school called to ask if they could send some food home with my daughter. I kindly told them no for a few reasons. 1) I was afraid it would embarrass my daughter. 2) we weren’t struggling monetarily, I was looking for the perfect apartment 3) we always have food I work in food service But I did appreciate they called and asked vs just assuming.

People can choose to say things they know will hurt someone out of anger. Those things don’t even have to be true. They can even do unspeakable things out of anger, ie. crimes of passion. You definitely see someone’s true colors in certain situations but that’s the key. It’s their true colors so it’s who they were regardless. Especially if there’s a recurring theme.
